Chapter 151: The Way
Ying Sisi's heart was warm. You can tell if someone cares about you in every little detail. Father Qin and mother Qin were afraid that they would have a hard time. They would often take the initiative to give them living expenses.
Li Junlu, on the other hand, would only tell her not to cause trouble in her in-laws' house. Sometimes she really envied Qin Yanci. Although he had suffered some grievances, his parents never lacked for his material needs.
That alone was better than many parents.
She said, “It's enough. We'll ask if it's not enough.”
“Okay then.”
Ying Sisi left. As she passed the lobby, a man walked over. “Hello. Are you a new colleague? What's your name? What position are you in?”
“I'm not new. My dad brought me here to get some living expenses.” Ying Sisi made up an excuse.
Dad?
His face turned green.
He quickly returned to his seat.
Ying Sisi smiled and left.
She returned home and looked at the empty living room. Being home alone was so lonely.
She checked the time. It was already 11:30.
I should go out to greet Qin Yanci.
If I don't find him, I'll go to the black market to find a chance to make money.
Ying Sisi walked for a while but didn't find him. She changed directions and went to the black market.
The black market in the east of the city was open again.
The vendors changed from batch to batch.
The bookstall owner was always there.
I have to find out how things work.
She had recently increased her reading comprehension. So, she planned to use buying books as a cover.
She had only read two pages.
A familiar voice echoed in her ears.
She turned her head and looked around.
She saw Hu Niu cornering a short man in the corner.
Whoever Hu Niu bullies, I'll help.
She put down her book and strode towards Hu Niu. She cleared her throat twice.
Hu Niu turned around.
He unconsciously squeezed his legs together and shrunk back. “You, you, what do you want?” I have terrible luck. Why did I run into this demon again?!
Ying Sisi said calmly, “I was just about to ask you that.”
“I, I didn't do anything.” Hu Niu turned around and ran.
Ying Sisi didn't chase him. She snorted and left.
The short man saw Hu Niu acting like a grandson. He looked up at Ying Sisi. His eyes lit up. He stared at her back, unable to tear his eyes away.
Over here, Ying Sisi chose two story books and asked the price.
“Two cents.” The stall owner said.
Ying Sisi was taking out money when she dropped a cigarette on purpose.
The stall owner laughed. “Wow, little girl, you smoke.”
This caused the people around to look at Ying Sisi.
Ying Sisi said calmly, “It's for entertaining my relatives.”
“Relatives should be entertained by men.”
Ying Sisi twitched her lips. “In our family, I do the entertaining. What can you do about it?”
The stall owner was speechless.
Ying Sisi handed him the cigarette. “Want one?”
“Thanks.” The stall owner lit it himself.
Ying Sisi had walked around for a long time. Finally, she got to ask the question she wanted to ask. To avoid making it obvious, she joked, “I've been here several times. I always see you. Those people who sell snacks are different every time. Do you know any kung fu? You can make the patrol team ignore you.”
The stall owner took a puff of his cigarette and was much more friendly towards Ying Sisi. He chuckled as he blew smoke rings. “Have you read Journey to the West?”
Ying Sisi shook her head.
The stall owner searched for a book and threw it to her. “Buy it home and read it. Once you understand it, you'll know why I can stick around here.”
Ying Sisi caught it. It was a worn-out camel-colored cover with the words “Journey to the West” written on it. “How much?”
“One cent too.”
Ying Sisi paid and walked out with the book.
As she left the gate.
The man who was cornered by Hu Niu appeared and blocked her path.
Ying Sisi frowned.
He rubbed his hands. His smile was restrained and flattering. “Miss, thank you just now. Would it be convenient to know your name?”
