Chapter 11: A Little Advice
Ying Sisi knew what was coming next, even without hearing it.
Mother Qin had been convinced by Lu Yuechun.
The novel had described the many conflicts within a large family, something Ying Sisi hadn't believed before. After all, these people had everything they wanted. Unlike the villagers who were always fighting for a bite to eat, lacking food and clothing.
But now she saw that they were essentially no different.
Lu Yuechun pretended to be unconcerned about her in-laws' money, but in reality, she wanted them to spend it all on her.
And Qin Yanci, upon returning home, immediately lashed out at his elders, effectively eroding their guilt towards him. It was a very unwise move.
But a person’s character is unchangeable.
She needed to give him some advice.
She calmly returned, “Aci, we are getting married on the fifteenth of the first lunar month. Shouldn’t we decorate your room?”
“You want to live here?”
“Yes, is that a problem?”
“It's a problem.”
Ying Sisi pretended to be confused and tilted her head. “What’s wrong? It should be much better than the conditions on the farm, right? Your brother's family now has four children, and your parents' income must be going to support them, right? They probably won't have the energy to take care of us.”
With Qin Yanci's temper, if his mother didn't meet his demands, he would likely blurt all this out.
Even if Mother Qin was reluctant to prepare a new room for him, she would have to do it after hearing this.
Otherwise, she would confirm his suspicions about her.
“You were battling wits with thieves yesterday, so you must be very tired today. Get some rest,” Ying Sisi said, her voice filled with concern.
Qin Yanci felt better after hearing this, a faint smile playing on his lips. “Okay.”
It was Saturday.
Li Junlu's work only required him to work half a day.
When Ying Sisi got home, he was reading the newspaper.
Song Hanmei was sitting beside him, knitting, while Li Yuwei was leisurely filing her nails.
The three of them were enjoying a peaceful moment.
She directly relayed Qin Yanci's intentions.
Li Yuwei was incredulous. “A marriage license?” In her previous life, Qin Yanci had never mentioned getting a marriage license with her.
They only had a wedding ceremony.
It was conducted by both sets of parents.
After their marriage, they lived in a cramped side room in a courtyard, sharing the space with ten or so other people. It was noisy and chaotic every day.
Qin's sister-in-law was also a hypocrite. In her youthful naivety, Li Yuwei didn’t know how many silent grievances she had suffered at the hands of her sister-in-law. Thinking back on her past life, she felt a mixture of fear and resentment.
Li Junlu chuckled and put down the newspaper. “That's good news. I'll have your sister get you a certificate.”
Li Yuwei said, “Dad, the Qin family hasn't given us a dowry yet. You're letting my sister marry without it? What if they don't give us anything later? Won't we be losing a person for nothing?”
Li Junlu continued to smile. “Marrying off a daughter isn't like selling a daughter. Why would we need a dowry?”
Ying Sisi looked at Li Junlu with disdain.
He was a hypocrite, a shameless scoundrel.
On the day of the engagement, she had personally seen Li Junlu receive a thick red envelope from Qin’s father.
Wasn’t that a dowry?
Father Qin had promised that if she successfully married into the Qin family, he would personally write a letter of recommendation for Li Junlu.
Money, power, all in hand.
And then he said, “Marrying off a daughter isn't like selling a daughter.”
How absurd.
Song Hanmei clearly knew the situation and chimed in, “Yes, we are marrying off a daughter, not selling her. When you get married, your father and I won't ask for a dowry either.”
Li Yuwei understood.
The Feng family was poor and struggling to make ends meet.
In her previous life, to marry Ying Sisi, they had begged and pleaded, and his father even sold blood on the black market to gather the three hundred yuan dowry demanded by her parents.
Because of that, his father’s health had never been good.
This time, she wouldn’t only forgo a dowry, she would also provide him with startup capital for his business.
That way, once he became successful, he would be grateful for her contributions.
She thought about it with a smug smile. “Mom and Dad, you're so open-minded. Sister, I'll go get you a certificate now.”
