Chapter 25: Reckoning
Every word from Song Hanmei made Ying Sisi's nose tingle and her throat tighten.
So that's it.
It wasn't just Song Hanmei's cruelty, but her father's tacit approval that allowed her to bully her.
She mumbled, “I'll do it later.”
After all, she was living under their roof.
Song Hanmei sneered disdainfully. “Don't just say it, do it! Steam the buns and dumplings in the morning, wash clothes at noon, and fry meatballs in the afternoon. If you don't do it, you'll move to Qin's house tomorrow. If anyone asks, I'll say you insisted on going. Let's see who loses face.” She left.
Ying Sisi clenched her fists. She had agreed to do the work, so why threaten her with her reputation?
That was too much.
She could confront the demonized Qin Yanci with a reckless attitude.
Why couldn't she deal with Song Hanmei, who kept provoking her?
After thinking it over, she decided to use Qin Yanci to teach Song Hanmei a lesson.
After formulating her plan, she got up, lifted her trouser legs, and saw that her ankle was still swollen, but much better than yesterday.
She applied more ointment, cleaned up, and went to the kitchen.
In the kitchen, there was not only a large piece of pork belly but also two large flower carp and a chicken.
She minced the pork belly and prepared the fish, cutting it into sections. She set aside the two best sections of the fish, and salted the rest.
The dough had also risen.
She started kneading the dough, steaming buns and meat buns.
She didn't eat breakfast until the afternoon.
After eating, Ying Sisi took two large baskets of meat buns and two sections of fish, packed oil and seasonings in glass bottles, and took a ride to the residential complex.
Qin Yanci was studying at home. Seeing her, he exclaimed joyfully, “Wife!” He immediately reached out and took her hand. “Your hands are so cold. Are you cold?”
“I'm warm now.” Ying Sisi withdrew her hand, rubbing it, and took out the meat buns wrapped in a small quilt from her bag. “Have you eaten? These are still warm.”
“You brought too many buns.” Qin Yanci's eyes lit up. His wife was always thinking of him, it was so good.
He picked up a warm bun, took a bite, and the juice and savory aroma filled his mouth, making him feel much better. “Delicious! Even better than what they sell at the bakery.”
“I'll cook the fish for you too.” Ying Sisi went to the kitchen.
She took down the pot of boiling water on the stove.
Qin Yanci: “The buns are enough.”
“No, you're using your brain to study, you need to replenish your energy.”
Qin Yanci followed her into the kitchen and saw a dark bottle in her hand. “Don't tell me that's seasoning.”
“Yes, it is.”
Qin Yanci laughed. “You're so resourceful. Is there anything I can help with?”
“No need.” Ying Sisi pushed him out of the kitchen.
Qin Yanci suddenly noticed that her leg wasn't as nimble as yesterday. “Wife, what's wrong with your leg?”
“I twisted my ankle. I've already put on medicine, it's fine.”
“Let me see.” Qin Yanci pulled her out of the kitchen, seated her in a chair, and lifted her trouser leg. A slightly swollen ankle was revealed. His heart instantly ached with pity. “It's swollen like this, and you still made buns for me and walked so far.”
Who are you trying to kill with this?
“Making buns doesn't require walking. I took a ride.”
Qin Yanci: “Don’t go back tonight.”
Ying Sisi had been waiting for this sentence. “My toiletries are at home.”
“Buy new ones.”
“The book you gave me is also at home.”
Qin Yanci decided to make a trip: “I'll go get them.”
Ying Sisi pointed to the kitchen. “The fish is almost ready. I made it especially for you.”
Qin Yanci couldn't eat anymore, but knowing she had made it especially for him, he couldn't waste her effort.
He finished the fish and two large meat buns before leaving. As soon as he stepped into Li's courtyard, he heard Song Hanmei's voice.
