 Chapter 83: Unease

Father Qin's words once again got through to mother Qin.

“You're really good at analyzing.”

 Father Qin smiled.  “Remember that.”

“I'll remember.”

After father Qin left, mother Qin took Song Hanmei and her daughter to the family housing complex.

The door was locked.

She knocked twice gently, giving the person inside a heads-up.  “Yanci, it's me.”

After a long time, Qin Yanci's husky voice came from inside. “What are you doing here?”

Song Hanmei said loudly, “Why does your voice sound like that?  Didn't you two stay up all night and not sleep?”

Mother Qin turned to look at Song Hanmei.  It was exactly as Old Qin had predicted.  She reprimanded softly.  “In-law, it's early in the morning. There are people coming and going in the hallway.  Why are you shouting so loudly?  Do you want everyone to hear?”

Song Hanmei lightly slapped her face and said in a low voice, “Look at my mouth.  In-law, don't mind me.  I'm just worried that the child will be in a panic.”

As soon as she finished speaking,

The door opened from inside.

Qin Yanci's face was cold.  “Are you really worried that my wife is in a panic, or are you deliberately coming here to let everyone know that she spent the night here?”

“You heard everything, huh?”  Song Hanmei's expression was embarrassed.  She refused to admit it.  “Sisi is my daughter too.  I want the best for her more than anyone.  How could I let everyone know about her—.”

Qin Yanci interrupted. “She's not here.  She went back home by herself after we watched the movie last night.”

Li Yuwei said, “We didn't wait for my sister.  We thought she was here.”

At this moment, a neighbor passed by and greeted them.  “Sister-in-law, Yanci, what are you doing standing at the door?  Who are these two?”

Mother Qin smiled.  “My daughter-in-law's aunt and sister.  Yanci, let us in. It's so cold outside.”

Qin Yanci turned and went into the guest room, sat upright at the desk, and flipped through a book.

Mother Qin followed behind and stared. The bed was neatly made.  The room only had her son in it.

Is her daughter-in-law in the master bedroom?

Are the two children sleeping in separate beds?

The bed was the one she prepared for their marriage.  They slept in it beforehand.  Wouldn't that be unlucky?

She pushed open the door to the master bedroom.

The quilt on the bed was neatly folded together. The peanuts and longan under the bed hadn't even been moved.

She secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Li Yuwei and Song Hanmei had already looked around.

From the sewing machine to the small toothbrush cup.

Everything they could use was new. It was clearly prepared for their future life together.

The former was envious.

The latter was resentful. Sisi is a wild child born to a vixen. How could she—? “You've already made the bed.  You've even prepared a sewing machine and a TV. What will we bring when they get married?”

Mother Qin thought to herself.  It sounded like they weren't prepared.  No wonder Old Qin kept urging her to buy things. It turned out he had anticipated that Sisi didn't have a dowry. Now she completely believed Old Qin's analysis.  Her stepmother was up to no good.  She was using her as a gun.

She's too bad.

She's a disgrace.

She looked slightly contemptuous. “You guys can figure that out.  My family doesn't care if there's more or less.”

Song Hanmei smiled awkwardly. “Then I'll prepare some clothes.”

“Don't bother.  I prepared them.  A brand new red wool dress.  Here.”  Mother Qin opened the closet and took out a coat and skirt.  “This color is just right, right?  It's pure wool.  It's very warm.”  She took out a pair of black cotton tights. “This whole outfit is something Old Qin had someone get from outside.  It cost a few hundred yuan.  This marriage is going to cost us everything we have.  So, In-law, don't worry about Sisi once she marries into our family. She's the youngest.  We'll love her as much as we love our own children.”

Song Hanmei: "…"  That doesn't sound right!

Is she insulting me for being stingy?

Transmigrated to a Prehistoric Tribe to Farm and Build Infrastructure - Chapter 01

Chapter 01: Male, Will You Marry Me?   This wasn't a dilapidated shack?!   Changxia stared at the 50-60 square-foot earth-pit tent. Old animal hides were draped over branches, bound together with vines – simple and rustic. Changxia’s lips twitched uncontrollably; she could only feel speechless. The tribesmen who had brought her here had already left.   She put down her backpack, placing her belongings to the side, not hurrying to begin work.   There was no mistake; this would be her home for the rest of her life.   After silently appreciating it for a moment, Changxia turned to look at Chen Rong behind her. His face was pale, his gait weak and unsteady. One glance revealed his poor health.   “You stay outside, I’ll go in and clean up alone,” Changxia said.   “It’s fine, let me come in with you. This animal den hasn’t been lived in for a long time. Besides insects and ants, we need to check if the roof is rotting,” Chen Rong smiled slightly, e...

Flash Marriage to a Crazy Rich Husband: I Shocked the World! - Chapter 38

Chapter 38: Worth a Thousand Gold       The door was unlocked.   Sisi had gotten up and was washing her face, applying face oil, when she heard someone calling “Wife” outside.   She opened the door to find Qin Yanci standing there.   Sisi's face lit up, and she greeted him sweetly, “A-Ci, what brings you here? Come in.”   Qin Yanci whispered, “It's about the stamps.”   “You traded them for money?” Sisi waited expectantly for his answer.   Qin Yanci said, “I wouldn't trade them without your consent.”   Sisi's heart skipped a beat. Being respected felt so good. She was eager to know the stamps' value. “How much are they worth?”   “Ten yuan.”   Sisi gasped in astonishment. Ten yuan? Over a hundred stamps, worth a thousand gold?   She was rich!   With this money, she could indulge in her buying and selling ventures.   She excitedly grabbed his hand. “Where did you trade them?”   Qin Yanci lowere...

Transmigration in 1977 - Chapter 13

Chapter 13: You Have a New Order Of course, Chen Fan wouldn't argue with Keeper Huang. He thanked him profusely. He had brought a big bag of sweet potatoes, free of charge, how could he not express his gratitude? After seeing Keeper Huang off, he really didn't dare close the door again, so he just left the door slightly ajar, at least that would provide some cover. He went back into the room. He didn't even touch the tea he poured for Captain Yang. He picked it up and felt it. The temperature was just right, so he took a big gulp. It tasted pretty good, what kind of tea is this? He stood up and lifted the lid of the teapot. He saw two large leaves floating inside, about the size of a baby's palm. It turned out to be “ one-horse tea ”. “One-horse tea” refers to a type of tea where a single leaf can be used to make a pot of tea. Some places also call it “ three-horse tea ”. These leaves are not actually tea leaves, but they are harvested from fresh “ HuBei Hawthorn ” lea...
