Chapter 43: Does Kong Yiyue Know You're Like This?
Fu Jinting wasn't the only one who thought he'd gone crazy. When Zhong Ziyang heard Xiang Yi tell him about the situation with a stern expression, he couldn't help exclaiming, “Has Fu Jinting lost his mind!”
Xiang Yi was telling him about this seven days after Fu Jinting and Kong Yiyue had gotten together.
After all this time, Xiang Yi had calmed down quite a bit. While what Fu Jinting was doing wasn't exactly honorable, both parties were willing participants in the end. There was nothing he could say, and no need to say anything at all.
Fu Jinting had always been steady and decisive in his actions—except when it came to Kong Yiyue, where he'd been indecisive and wavering repeatedly.
All Xiang Yi could say was: This isn't at all like how Fu Jinting usually does things!
Zhong Ziyang asked Xiang Yi, “Does Kong Yiyue know why Fu Jinting agreed to be with her?”
Xiang Yi shot him a glare. “Do you think someone like Kong Yiyue would stay with him without caring after finding out the reason?” Xiang Yi could barely understand Zhong Ziyang's way of thinking—he was really quite foolish!
Zhong Ziyang rolled his eyes back at him in annoyance. “Thinking about it this way, Kong Yiyue is really pitiful. Why did she have to be so stubborn about liking Fu Jinting of all people! Hey, how long do you think they'll last?”
This question…
Xiang Yi had thought about it too, but he didn't dare tell Zhong Ziyang that he had a feeling they wouldn't even make it to graduation!
After graduation, Kong Yiyue's career and Fu Jinting's work would inevitably create major conflicts. Being apart more than together would be unavoidable. Not to mention their relationship was already less than pure—he was sure the elders of the Fu family had already heard the news with their impressive information network.
Xiang Yi pondered—how long would the Fu family elders turn a blind eye to Fu Jinting and Kong Yiyue being together? He was afraid this pretense might not even last until the end of the semester.
After saying goodbye to Fu Jinting, Kong Yiyue had just walked through the school gate when she saw Hou Guanglue approaching—someone she'd been avoiding.
When Hou Guanglue saw her, his face lit up with his usual smile. “Kong Yiyue! Where did you go just now? Who were you with!”
Kong Yiyue stared at him, thinking: Did he see me getting out of Fu Jinting's car? But the car had stopped across the street from the school, and Fu Jinting hadn't gotten out—so that seemed unlikely.
But even if he didn't know, Kong Yiyue had no intention of hiding it. “Mm, I was with Fu Jinting.”
Kong Yiyue watched Hou Guanglue's expression carefully. After a moment of silence, he said casually as if nothing had happened, “Oh right, I just remembered I need to find my classmates—they're waiting for me over there. Kong Yiyue, I'll catch up with you another day.”
“Okay.”
Hou Guanglue avoided the topic so naturally that Kong Yiyue was confused. Had she really misunderstood him before?
Did Hou Guanglue not actually like her at all—was he just showing extra care as a high school classmate?
Seeing Kong Yiyue turn to leave after saying “okay,” the smile on Hou Guanglue's face faded the moment her back was turned. He felt a pang in his heart, muttering softly, “Kong Yiyue, why do you always have to tell me the truth in such a cruel way?”
He'd just been riding his bike back from outside when he turned the corner and spotted a white BMW parked by the road. Curious, he'd looked closer out of instinct—and never expected to see Kong Yiyue inside. Looking more carefully, he recognized the distinct, familiar profile of the person in the driver's seat: who else could it be but Fu Jinting!
For a moment, Hou Guanglue couldn't process what he was seeing. How had they gotten together so quickly?
He refused to believe it!
After standing there stunned for a moment, Hou Guanglue snapped back to his senses and immediately ran toward the school gate. Maybe he could talk to Fu Jinting properly and ask for a fair competition!
Panting heavily, Hou Guanglue stood not far from the white car, seeing it was still parked there. He felt relieved—thank goodness Fu Jinting hadn't left yet!
He'd just taken a few steady steps forward when he suddenly saw a beautiful girl talking to Fu Jinting from the other side of the car.
The car blocked half of their bodies from view. Hou Guanglue watched as Fu Jinting, dressed in a white shirt, spoke in a cold, expressionless voice, occasionally responding to the girl with a word or two.
The girl wore a striking magenta top, her slightly curled hair falling just to her collarbone.
Her smile was just as charming as Kong Yiyue's, though their temperaments were completely different. The girl in front of him gave off an impression of gentle elegance, while Kong Yiyue…
Hou Guanglue tried to think of words to describe her, but after racking his brain, he couldn't find the right one. She was too unique—determined and persistent, serious and intelligent, sometimes gentle and sometimes firm. Her complex personality was captivating.
Hou Guanglue looked at Fu Jinting with disdain. So Fu Jinting was openly playing around with multiple people! In this regard, Hou Guanglue was upset on Kong Yiyue's behalf—Fu Jinting was no better than him! Why did she have to choose him!
Hou Guanglue watched as the girl finally smiled and said goodbye to Fu Jinting. Before leaving, she seemed to glance at Hou Guanglue with a look of confusion. Hou Guanglue smiled back at her.
Nie Lingwei wondered if Fu Jinting had come to Lian University at this hour just to meet this person? While she had no impression of the boy in front of her, she figured she'd probably get to know him later. With that thought, she stopped worrying about who he was.
Fu Jinting turned around, opening the car door with a casual movement as he asked in a cold voice, “Have you watched enough?”
Hou Guanglue shrugged, a rogue smile spreading across his face. “Fu Jinting, I never thought you'd be this kind of person!”
Fu Jinting's face darkened, his deep eyes fixing on him. “Hou Guanglue, what do you mean by that?”
Hou Guanglue strolled over to the car, his smile deepening. “You're so smart—how could you not know what I mean? Fu Jinting, your voice is so cold—of course you're angry! Being angry means you understand what I'm saying, so why ask me?”
After speaking, Hou Guanglue paused deliberately before continuing slowly, “Let me think—you're asking because you don't want to admit you're two-timing, right? Being with Kong Yiyue while also messing around with other beautiful women—does Kong Yiyue know you're like this?”
Fu Jinting was sharp enough to understand that Hou Guanglue's long speech was ultimately about defending Kong Yiyue.
He laughed coldly. “Even if that were true, so what? Kong Yiyue likes me, and I'm the one she wants to be with forever. Even if you tell her what you saw, do you think she'd break up with me? Hou Guanglue, you're hopelessly stupid.”
Hou Guanglue was stunned. Yes—even if he told Kong Yiyue the truth, she'd probably choose not to believe him. But still, “Fu Jinting, even if she doesn't break up with you, at least she'll have doubts about you. As long as that gives me a chance to win her over, it'll be worth it.”
Fu Jinting's expression remained unchanged, but his heart was no longer as calm as before. He said, “Hou Guanglue, do you want to be a homewrecker?”
Hou Guanglue laughed and said, “Of course not! I plan to compete with you fairly. After all, you two are just boyfriend and girlfriend—people get divorced even after marriage. I'm just a bit late to the game, that's all. Fu Jinting, I'm going to start pursuing Kong Yiyue for real!”
