Chapter 38: Worth a Thousand Gold
The door was unlocked.
Sisi had gotten up and was washing her face, applying face oil, when she heard someone calling “Wife” outside.
She opened the door to find Qin Yanci standing there.
Sisi's face lit up, and she greeted him sweetly, “A-Ci, what brings you here? Come in.”
Qin Yanci whispered, “It's about the stamps.”
“You traded them for money?” Sisi waited expectantly for his answer.
Qin Yanci said, “I wouldn't trade them without your consent.”
Sisi's heart skipped a beat. Being respected felt so good. She was eager to know the stamps' value. “How much are they worth?”
“Ten yuan.”
Sisi gasped in astonishment. Ten yuan? Over a hundred stamps, worth a thousand gold?
She was rich!
With this money, she could indulge in her buying and selling ventures.
She excitedly grabbed his hand. “Where did you trade them?”
Qin Yanci lowered his gaze, his eyes fixed on her hand, which was soft and cool, like a feather, tickling him. “Don't you trust me? Do you really need to go with me?”
“No, no, no,” Sisi shook her head vigorously, like a toy bobbing on a spring. After a moment's hesitation, she pulled a box out from under the bed. From the bottom of the box, she took out a stamp book. “I have a whole book here. I want to sell it.”
Qin Yanci was surprised. He took the stamp book from her and flipped through it page by page, sighing in admiration. “You actually have so many rare items.” His expression suddenly darkened, “So you didn't find that one stamp? You lied to me?”
Sisi's expression tightened with apprehension.
Though she was convinced that Li Yuwei had been spreading rumors about him, she couldn't help but feel afraid when he looked so serious.
She rushed to him and wrapped her arms around his waist. “A-Ci, forgive me. I didn't mean to. I bought them at a black market. I was afraid you'd think I was shady, I care about you so much.”
The girl apologized sweetly, her voice soft and gentle, and her face directly in front of his chest.
The warm feeling, through the clothes, touched his skin.
He immediately felt his heart racing and had to clench his fists to control himself.
After a long moment, he asked, “How much do you care?”
Sisi looked up, her eyes resolute. “I care for you in a way that words can't describe.”
Qin Yanci burst out laughing. Looking at her face, bright as a spring flower, he couldn't contain his feelings anymore. He leaned down and brushed his lips against her soft, sweet cherry-red lips.
Sisi was startled. She didn't understand what he was doing.
She tried to push him away.
But a scream pierced through the air.
They both jumped apart in alarm.
There stood Li Yuwei, rubbing her eyes and peering at them. “What are you doing?” Did she see wrong?
It couldn't be! Qin Yanci couldn't possibly be kissing Sisi.
Sisi was both embarrassed and flustered. “Li Yuwei! Why didn't you knock?”
Oh my god, how embarrassing!
She covered her face.
Li Yuwei finally realized she wasn't seeing things. Qin Yanci really did kiss Sisi. She felt betrayed by the man, her anger rising. “I should be asking you! It's broad daylight, and you're canoodling with a man! What kind of behavior is that?”
Qin Yanci, annoyed by Li Yuwei's interruption, snapped back, “We have a marriage certificate! You don't have any right to tell us what to do, day or night!”
Li Yuwei argued, “A wedding ceremony is required! Sister, make him leave!”
“You should be the one to leave. What do you think you're doing, butting in on our business?” Sisi was furious. She pushed Li Yuwei out the door, slammed it shut, and bolted it. Then she turned to Qin Yanci, feeling quite embarrassed.
After a moment, she took out the gloves she had been frantically knitting and bit her lip, looking like a bashful wife.
“A-Ci, these are for you.”
