Chapter 45: Good Fortune

Song Hanmei fanned the flames, “Isn't that right?  She's always trying to undermine me in front of Qin's couple. When she first came, she was so obedient and well-behaved, but now that she has a good mother-in-law, she's gotten a big head.”

“We used to say we were hoping to enjoy a comfortable life with her in the future, but now it looks like she'll be lucky if she doesn't break our old bones.”

With a few words, she erased Sisi's contributions and accused her of being ungrateful.

She didn't reflect on her own mistakes at all.

Sisi immediately countered, “So, I should admit that I'm lazy in front of my in-laws?  Should I unconditionally obey your arrangements and share a bed with your cousin to be considered well-behaved?  To be considered a source of hope for you?  Why don't you go out and yell that Li Yuwei sleeps until noon and you don't arrange for her to share a bed with your cousin?  Isn't it because I wasn't born to you, so you can treat me however you want?”

After she finished speaking, she was stunned. Her beautiful eyes gradually welled up with tears.  What had she done wrong to be bullied like this?

“Who's treating you badly? I found you such a good husband.”  Song Hanmei's voice was tinged with bitterness.  “Yuwei might not be as lucky as you.”

“Why didn't you keep this good fortune for your own daughter?” Sisi shifted her gaze, glaring angrily at Li Junlu.  “How did you pursue my mom? People in the village still talk about it. Now she's gone, and you, you're marrying a new wife and getting ahead in life.

“You know exactly why you brought me back here, but you always keep saying it's for my own good while you exploit me.”

“You think I'm from the countryside, so poor I can't afford to eat. You brought me here, gave me food, and you think I should be grateful? Have you ever thought that it's because of you I was born, and all my suffering comes from you! I hate you so much!”

She went back to her room and locked the door.

She threw herself on the bed and buried her face in the blanket, desperately trying to suppress her sobs.

Outside, Song Hanmei continued to complain, “Look at her.  Just say a few words to her, and she gets her hackles up.  She says you're a heartless man and says she hates you.  Is that how you talk to your own father?”

Li Yuwei joined in, adding fuel to the fire. “Sister, really, why are you being so dramatic?”

Li Junlu's mind flashed with images of his younger days with women.  He felt a pang of regret. “Can you two stop it for a minute?!”

Song Hanmei was relentless. “Am I wrong to say this?  Well, you can blame yourself.  Who told you to go around sowing your wild oats when you were young?”

“Enough!” Li Junlu roared, then stormed out in anger.

Song Hanmei closed her eyes in fright. She was about to retort, but Li Yuwei stopped her and whispered, “Mom, Dad feels guilty about Sisi now.  The more aggressive you are, the more resentful Dad will be towards us.  Let's discuss the real business.  Tomorrow is New Year's Eve.  After the New Year, Qin Yanci will come to our house for New Year's greetings.  We need to make sure that he gets together with Sisi.  Then, even if Dad feels guilty, he'll be disappointed in Sisi.”

“If you can marry that boy from the Qin family, even if we switch brides at the last minute, your dad would still offset his guilt towards Sisi.”  Song Hanmei felt that this was her daughter's last chance to marry into the Qin family.

Li Yuwei's hair stood on end. “Don't be stupid. I'll tell you the truth. Qin Yanci has mental problems. To use the common people's words, he's crazy.  Or how else could a high school graduate, who spent ten years working on a farm in the northwest, pick our family?

The girls from families that match his social status, his family wouldn't dare deceive them.

While our family isn't bad, it's still not good enough compared to the Qin family.  If you marry into their family, you're going into the lion's den. They'll control you.  Don't you believe me? Go ask around.”

“Who are you kidding?  I've met Yanci. He's more normal than normal people.”

Transmigration in 1977 - Chapter 01

Chapter 01: Time Travel Needs Ritual They say that if you set the air conditioner to 16 degrees Celsius, light a candle, put an alarm clock in front of the candle, then sleep under a warm air conditioner blanket, and chant "Heaven and Earth are boundless, the cosmos is turned upside down," you can time travel?   Chen Fan came out of the bathroom after a drunken shower, remembering what his colleague, who was known for his mysterious ways and constantly mentioning the I Ching and esoteric arts (and nicknamed "Daoist"), had said during a drinking session.   Thinking about how he had been in an orphanage since he was 10 years old, and how he had only managed to get through college thanks to part-time jobs and his parents' inheritance, and how he had been working for years but still just a struggling wage earner renting a place in a suburban village, without any family support, it seemed like time traveling wouldn't be too bad. It wouldn't be worse than his...

Transmigration in 1977 - Chapter 13

Chapter 13: You Have a New Order Of course, Chen Fan wouldn't argue with Keeper Huang. He thanked him profusely. He had brought a big bag of sweet potatoes, free of charge, how could he not express his gratitude? After seeing Keeper Huang off, he really didn't dare close the door again, so he just left the door slightly ajar, at least that would provide some cover. He went back into the room. He didn't even touch the tea he poured for Captain Yang. He picked it up and felt it. The temperature was just right, so he took a big gulp. It tasted pretty good, what kind of tea is this? He stood up and lifted the lid of the teapot. He saw two large leaves floating inside, about the size of a baby's palm. It turned out to be “ one-horse tea ”. “One-horse tea” refers to a type of tea where a single leaf can be used to make a pot of tea. Some places also call it “ three-horse tea ”. These leaves are not actually tea leaves, but they are harvested from fresh “ HuBei Hawthorn ” lea...

Transmigration in 1977 - Chapter 15

Chapter 15: Acquiring a New Skill   Back in his room, Chen Fan continued reading, but after a while, he couldn't focus. His mind was filled with what Jiang Lili had just said.   The chickens were eaten, and they don't raise pigs.   Everyone else went home for the New Year, and they didn't leave anything good for that girl?   That's too much!   After a while, Chen Fan couldn't sit still, so he put down the book, got up and walked out.   He went to Jiang Lili's door and greeted her, "Hey, Xiao Jiang."   Jiang Lili immediately came over, "What is it?"   She paused, a strange look flashed in her eyes. She whispered, "Chen... Chen Fan, I want to ask you something."   Chen Fan was about to speak, but when he heard her say this, he smiled, "Ask away."   Jiang Lili curiously looked at him, "How old are you this year?"   Chen Fan blinked, guessing what she meant, and said, "Eighteen."   Sixteen, almost sevente...
