Chapter 44: For Your Own Good
Mother Qin glanced around. When elders were discussing things, it wasn't the time for younger people to express opinions. Out of courtesy, she said, “Lively is lively, but it's a lot of trouble to clean up afterwards. It's easier for everyone at a restaurant. Yanci will also find it convenient to meet people. Many relatives and friends haven't seen him for years.”
Li Yuwei was even more unbalanced. In her past life, after the wedding, because eldest sister-in-law Qin was still in confinement, she had spent two days cleaning the courtyard. Why didn't Sisi have to do any cleaning this time?
As if she had just thought of something, she said, “I heard Sister say that you won't live together after they get married?”
Mother Qin said, “There are too many children at home; we don't have enough space.”
Li Yuwei: "…" What Sisi said was actually true!
Why was everything different from her past life?
Li Junlu frowned, “Yuwei, what are you asking all these questions for? Your uncle and aunt won't mistreat your sister. Go play with your sister.”
Li Yuwei: "…"

Sisi didn't want to be alone with Li Yuwei. After breakfast, she slipped out of the house.
She wandered around the streets.
She had been walking for a long time, and her ankle started to hurt.
She found a sheltered place to stand.
She saw Qin Yanci in the distance and chased after him, but he was gone in a flash.
He wasn't with his parents to discuss the wedding details, and he wasn't studying. What was he doing out on the streets?
Was he running errands to help her sell stamps?
It was so cold. He was working hard.
She couldn't find him, so she was about to go home, but she bought a stack of red paper on her way.
She went back home and greeted Qin Yanci's parents. She went into her room to cut out window decorations.
When they left, Sisi gave them the paper cuts she had made. “Dad, Mom, I made these myself. Here you go.”
“Oh, they're so beautiful. Who did you learn from?” Mother Qin exclaimed. Look at these flowers and blooming lotuses, these carp leaping over the dragon gate. They were more exquisite than the ones sold on the street.
Sisi replied sweetly, “An old lady in the village.”
When her grandmother was alive, she often took Sisi to help a widowed old woman in the village.
It was said that the old woman had been a dancer when she was young.
She was even a popular courtesan.
The old woman knew everything.
She taught Sisi how to cut paper, weave bamboo, and sew.
She also taught her how to dance, but Sisi didn't think she would ever need that.
The old woman warned her, “Men's love is cheap, and men's words are unreliable. Today they can swear eternal love, but tomorrow they can cast you aside as if you are nothing.”
“So, women must rely on themselves to succeed.”
The old woman also said, “This is my experience and my fate. I hope you take it as a warning.”
“Wow, Sisi, you really are a hidden gem. You know how to cut paper. You know to give it to your mother-in-law, but not your family.” Song Hanmei implied that Sisi was siding with the Qin family against them.
Sisi lowered her head to hide her disgust for Song Hanmei. “I have some for home. I just didn't bring them out.”
Mother Qin smiled. “Sisi, remember to come to my house on New Year's Day.”
Sisi nodded lightly. “Okay.”
After seeing Qin Yanci's parents off, Li Junlu was very happy. He wanted to mend his relationship with Sisi and took the initiative to say, “Sisi, I was too harsh yesterday. Don't blame me, I'm doing it for your own good.”
Sisi ignored him.
He pretended to be doing it for her own good, but he was really stabbing her in the heart.
Li Junlu didn't care. “You said you didn't have any clothes, right? I'll go buy you some.”
“I have some.”
“Those clothes are new, but the color is too plain. Come on, let's buy you a set.”
“I said I have some,” Sisi went back to her room and closed the door.
Li Junlu was furious again. “You girl! When I don't buy you anything, you have something to say, and when I do buy you something, you still have something to say. Don't you know how to be grateful?!”
Sisi didn't understand. She was the one who was wronged. Why was he complaining?
