Transmigration in 1977 - Chapter 13

Chapter 13: You Have a New Order

Of course, Chen Fan wouldn't argue with Keeper Huang. He thanked him profusely.

He had brought a big bag of sweet potatoes, free of charge, how could he not express his gratitude?

After seeing Keeper Huang off, he really didn't dare close the door again, so he just left the door slightly ajar, at least that would provide some cover.

He went back into the room. He didn't even touch the tea he poured for Captain Yang. He picked it up and felt it. The temperature was just right, so he took a big gulp.

It tasted pretty good, what kind of tea is this?

He stood up and lifted the lid of the teapot. He saw two large leaves floating inside, about the size of a baby's palm. It turned out to be “one-horse tea”.

“One-horse tea” refers to a type of tea where a single leaf can be used to make a pot of tea. Some places also call it “three-horse tea”.

These leaves are not actually tea leaves, but they are harvested from fresh “HuBei Hawthorn” leaves, which are then dried to make dry leaves.

Steeping these leaves in tea has a variety of medicinal and health benefits, including quenching thirst, replenishing the spleen and stomach, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, resistance to hypoxia, anti-fatigue, lowering blood sugar, and many more. It can also invigorate blood circulation, regulate menstruation, detoxify, clear heat, and promote urination. It mainly treats wind-heat colds.

HuBei Hawthorn grows in many places across the country, but this type of tea is mainly popular along the Yangtze River in Hubei, Hunan, and Jiangnan provinces. Chen Fan used to drink it as a child.

Actually, the best way to drink this kind of tea is not to brew it fresh, but to let it sit overnight.

The tea is steeped the night before, and the next day you go to work in the fields. When you come back, you drink a large bowl of cold one-horse tea. It quenches your thirst and makes you feel good.

But this is more commonly drunk in summer, and in winter it's too cold, it's easy to get a cold stomach, so people drink less. If they drink it, they drink it hot. Maybe Jiang Lili saw that he was weak and added two extra leaves to prevent him from catching a cold.

A bowl of one-horse tea instantly brought Chen Fan back to his childhood memories. He sat in the chair, looking at the outside, but his eyes were unfocused. He unconsciously finished the whole bowl of tea.

He had eaten and drank his fill. On such a cold day, it would have been best to curl up in bed and take a nap.

Unfortunately, the straw and blanket were still drying outside, leaving only an empty bamboo bed.

His body hadn't fully recovered. If he slept like this, he might get a fever again before nightfall. At that time, even seven packs of wolves wouldn't help.

Chen Fan could only wrap his cotton-padded jacket around him and sit in the chair, staring blankly.

After a while, he couldn't stand it anymore and got up to walk outside. He turned right at the door and went to Jiang Lili's door.

Jiang Lili was sitting at the table reading. When she saw him come, she immediately stood up and said, "What's wrong?"

Chen Fan smiled, "Oh, I just have nothing to do, I'm bored. I want to ask if you have any books I can read."

"Oh."

Jiang Lili lifted her book and walked over to give it to him, "This is the only book I have."

Chen Fan took it and looked at it, he was stunned, Little Red Book?

But he was actually a bit interested, so he asked, "Can I borrow it?"

Jiang Lili nodded, "Sure, take it and read."

She paused, remembering what the villagers said about Chen Fan having amnesia, and whispered, "When you read, you need to be careful, don't damage it. Otherwise, it'll be a big problem."

Chen Fan slowly nodded. He paused for two seconds before smiling, "Got it, got it."

He raised the book and waved it, "Thanks."

Jiang Lili lowered her head shyly, "You're welcome."

Chen Fan waved his hand. He remembered that she couldn't see because she was bowing her head. He didn't say anything. He just pursed his lips and turned to leave.

He went back to his room, sat on the chair, leaned his body against the large table, and held up the Little Red Book, carefully turning the pages.

Jiang Lili's reminder was very necessary. Right now, everyone was basically following the habits of the previous few years, but the bottom line was more flexible. It was just that they weren't as harsh when things went wrong.

Overall, it's best to respect the local customs for now.

The Little Red Book wasn't necessarily red, or rather, the little booklets weren't all red. The normal anthologies had white covers. This one did too.

Chen Fan held the book and soon became engrossed in it. He felt that many of the things it said were insightful. He was completely absorbed. He didn't even notice anyone entering the room.

Captain Yang walked around him three times before he coughed.

Chen Fan heard the sound and immediately looked up, "Oh, Captain, you're here."

He put the book on the table and picked up the teapot, ready to pour tea.

Captain Yang waved his hand, "No, no. I'm just passing through."

He picked up the book on the table and flipped through it lightly. He then turned to look at Chen Fan and asked softly, "Where did you get this?"

Chen Fan smiled awkwardly, "I borrowed it from Jiang Lili."

"Oh."

Captain Yang nodded emphatically, "This is okay, this is okay."

Then he gently put the book down and pointed to the two wooden basins on the ground, "These are wooden basins that I made myself, you can use them for now."

Chen Fan quickly nodded, "Thank you, thank you, Captain, for your thoughtfulness."

He's been running back and forth to bring me things. I'm truly touched.

Captain Yang waved his hand and said with a smile, "It's no problem, it's just a craft, it's not worth much. The educated youths here all use enamel basins, they wouldn't even look at this rough stuff, so it's just for you to use in an emergency."

Chen Fan said seriously, "No matter what, you saved my life, Captain, and you've been running around helping me get things. I won't say too many words of thanks. I'll show you my gratitude later!"

Captain Yang chuckled. He felt a little strange.

You're not even one of our production team members, what performance are you going to show me?
What, you're going to stay here and not leave?

"Take care of yourself, I'm going back now."

He shook his head and turned to leave. When he got to the door, he suddenly turned back.

Chen Fan was following behind, ready to see him off, and he almost bumped into him head-on.

"Uh."

Captain Yang pointed to the village on the earthen hill and said with a smile, "If you have nothing to do, go to the village and walk around. Get to know some people. Also, my family is slaughtering a pig the day after tomorrow. If you have nothing to do, come over and help. Tell Jiang Lili, and bring her along."

He said to help, but he actually meant to let him come and eat meat.

Earlier, Chen Fan carried several loads of water, the whole village knew. A six-foot tall man, carrying half a bucket of water, even worse than Jiang Lili, a girl. People were laughing from the beginning of the village to the end.

With his strength, what help could he be?

He can only help eat.

Chen Fan knew his own limits. He'd just be a spectator. He was planning to verbally agree, go over and look around, and leave before dinner.

But when he thought of going to watch the pig slaughter, and perhaps if he helped, even if it was just moving things, I might trigger a new skill. He felt as if he had heard, "You have a new order." His eyes immediately lit up.

He stood at attention, "Captain, you can rest assured, I'll be there on time, and I'll definitely complete the task!"

Captain Yang chuckled and patted his shoulder, "Okay, come early the day after tomorrow."

After that, he turned and walked away.

Chen Fan sent him to the courtyard gate, watching the thatched houses nestled among the trees on the hillside. He was overjoyed.

I was only focused on Jiang Lili, and I forgot that there were hundreds of people waiting for me to grind experience points!
