Chapter 19: Pretentious
Qin Yanci was taken aback.
She actually thought he was hungry and called him into the kitchen.
His heart warmed.
He couldn't help but say, “It's good to have a wife.”
Ying Sisi smiled, her lips pursed. “Wife, wife,” she thought, “how thick-skinned.”
Qin Yanci didn't forget to feed Ying Sisi while eating. They both ate until they were half-full, and the kitchen work was done.
At this time, Qin's mother appeared. Looking at the plentiful food on the table, she was very satisfied. “Sisi is so diligent.”
“You're flattering me.”
The family sat together, praising Ying Sisi's skillful hands and her ability to get things done.
Ying Sisi's efforts were praised, and she couldn't stop smiling.
Only Qin Yanci was cold-faced. “So, what? Just because my wife is capable, she should do everything?”
Why?
Lu Yuechun said, “Yanci, you just married a wife today, why aren't you happy?”
Qin Yanci didn't respond.
Lu Yuechun felt a little embarrassed.
Ying Sisi turned to meet his cold gaze, her eyes full of confusion. He was fine just now, why was he unhappy now? Did he dislike his sister-in-law?
He did dislike her.
His sister-in-law wasn't a good person.
Qin's mother teased, “Maybe it's because Sisi is going to leave.”
Lu Yuechun, wanting to please Qin Yanci, said matter-of-factly, “You got the license, so you're legally married. Sisi should stay. Besides, it's already dark. You're a young girl, and you're so pretty. It's dangerous to walk alone at night.”
Ying Sisi's face flushed again. “Aci will walk me home.”
Lu Yuechun thought Ying Sisi was being pretentious, deliberately acting reserved and trying to control Qin Yanci.
After dinner, Qin's mother handed Qin Yanci a gift she had prepared and told him to give it to Li Junlu.
On the way home, Ying Sisi sat in the back, holding onto the seat frame with both hands. “Aci, when will we arrange someone to clean the house we're getting married in?”
He gave her the keys today.
If she was sure no one was there, she planned to go there to cut window decorations.
It would avoid Song Hanmei's sarcastic remarks and Li Yuwei's surveillance.
“After the New Year. What? Are you going to decorate it yourself?”
Ying Sisi laughed it off. “I really want to decorate it myself, but I'm a bit busy these days.” She was diligent, but she wasn't going to do everything.
Qin Yanci guessed that her stepmother was making her prepare for the New Year.
She was too good.
She didn't know how to resist.
He would definitely give that stepmother a good talking-to when he had the chance.
After about half an hour, Ying Sisi arrived home.
The three of them were sitting in the living room, waiting for her.
Li Junlu's eyes lit up when he saw Qin Yanci. “Yanci is here! Sit down.”
Qin Yanci put down the gift. “Hello, Uncle.”
“You've already gotten the license with Sisi, why are you still calling me Uncle?” Li Junlu reminded Qin Yanci to change his address.
Ying Sisi jumped in, “Dad, before we got the license today, father-in-law gave me a really, really big red envelope.”
Li Junlu: "." You little brat! You deliberately said he gave you the red envelope before you got the license.
It was obvious she was saying he was stingy and didn't understand social etiquette.
Why couldn't she just say how much it was?
A really, really big red envelope.
How much should he give?
He was losing out no matter what; if he gave less, he would lose face.
She was really good at taking advantage of her father!
He said stiffly, “Right, you have to give a change-of-address fee.” He turned and went into the house.
Song Hanmei wanted to follow, but she was worried that Li Junlu would give a small amount, and Qin Yanci would go home and tell Qin's father and mother that she had instigated it, so the red envelope was small. To avoid suspicion, she stayed behind.
Her eyes fell on the gift Qin Yanci brought.
Two bottles of Moutai.
A pack of cigarettes.
And a box of ginseng.
The Qin family was so generous.
These should have been for her daughter!
What a pity.
She used her elbow to nudge Li Yuwei, where Ying Sisi and Qin Yanci couldn't see, and said through gritted teeth, “Look at what you missed out on!”
