Chapter 35: Rebellion and Vacation
Fu Guanxian's reckless and bold words caused a commotion of cheers and applause from the students below. The principal, fearing that the situation would spin out of control, quickly sent all the students back to their classrooms.
Of course, this interesting event was enough for everyone to gossip about for days.
The principal calls Fu Guanxian to the principal's office, saying that he wants to talk to his parents about his educational issues.
Fu Guanxian directly says, “I'll solve my own problems. I don't need my dad to get involved. Principal, you don't have to be in a dilemma. I'll make the decision for you. Just suspend me for a week and I'll go home to reflect.”
“Fu Guanxian, you're really planning to rebel!”
“Principal, I'm not planning to. I just think my actions were too bad, it's a form of self-reflection. Compared to that verbose self-criticism, I prefer to solve things with action.” After saying this, he ignores the principal and turns around to leave.
The principal says fiercely, “Don't think the school can't handle you!”
“Then try it!” Fu Guanxian lazily replies.
Many students know that Fu Guanxian is now in school; even if he wants to go against the grain, no one would dare to stop him.
During break time in Year 2, Class 2, the girls are all admiringly recounting Fu Guanxian's words during the flag-raising ceremony, and they become more and more excited, “Did you see the look in his eyes? He's so domineering!”
“I've opened my eyes. I've never seen a student who dares to openly defy the school like that!”
“Hmph, have you considered his last name? Who in the city doesn't give this surname some face?”
“So, Fu Guanxian's family is really rich!”
“More than just rich!”
“But I don't see him showing off his wealth very much.”
“You're stupid! The clothes he wears under his school uniform, like the plain white T-shirt he wears in summer, cost thousands. And his shoes, limited edition international brands, and his phone, cost tens of thousands!”
“I didn't know...”
“Also, he often eats at restaurants and cafes, and he's always eaten there. It costs hundreds per person, and he eats with so many male classmates. I heard that he often picks up the tab.”
“Hey, you girls are enough!” A boy in the class can't take it anymore. He steps in to reprimand them. “He's openly challenging our class monitor, and you're still gossiping about this? You're embarrassing the whole class!”
Xing Zhaoyan pulls on the boy's arm. “It's alright. Let's not say anything.”
Everyone looks at each other, and suddenly the lively discussion falls silent.
Although Xing Zhaoyan doesn't really care about Fu Guanxian's attitude, he cares about Xiang Yang. He turns his head and discreetly looks at her. She's lowering her head and listening to Fan Xiaoyu whispering to her.
Fan Xiaoyu is also discussing Fu Guanxian and Xing Zhaoyan with her, but she's not talking about how rich Fu Guanxian is or how handsome he was this morning. She asks, “Xiang Yang, if the two of them really become enemies, whose side would you be on?”
Xiang Yang has understood since her impulsive conversation with Xing Zhaoyan. She can't be on anyone's side. So she whispers, “I'm helpless.”
Fan Xiaoyu is dissatisfied. “What do you mean helpless? It's not like I'm asking you to do anything. I'm just curious, are you on the side of your childhood sweetheart, Fu Guanxian, or on the side of our helpless class monitor?”
Xiang Yang thinks for a moment and replies, “Let them handle their own business.”
She thinks that if she gets involved, Fu Guanxian will probably be even more unreasonable to deal with.
After Fu Guanxian returns to the classroom, Zheng Jie leads a group of boys and girls who line up on both sides of the podium and the aisle. When they see Fu Guanxian coming in, someone shouts, “3-2-1.” Then, loud and uniform applause rings out.
Fu Guanxian looks at them with strange eyes, then asks in an emotionless voice, “What are you doing?”
Zheng Jie takes the lead in answering, “Welcome back! Our class's mighty hero!”
Fu Guanxian glances at him, waves his hand and says, “Cut it out. What's with all the fuss?”
Although the classmates obediently disperse, many of them still smile and praise him for being so cool in the morning.
Fu Guanxian is too lazy to respond. He returns to his seat.
Zheng Jie and the other guys surround him and ask if the principal made things difficult for him.
Fu Guanxian snorts, “Why would he make things difficult? I'm giving myself a vacation.”
Zheng Jie is surprised, “What do you mean?”
“I'm going home. I have something to take care of, I'll go home, handle it, and come back when I feel better.”
“Hey! Guanxian, don't be impulsive!”
“I'm very calm!”
Zheng Jie doesn't believe him. How could this be something a calm person would do?
“Guanxian!” Zheng Jie wants to persuade him again, but Fu Guanxian packs up his schoolbag and puts it on his back. “I'm going. I'll avoid any further trouble.”
“Hey!” Zheng Jie sees that he's determined to leave and walks down the stairs with him. “By the way, don't throw away the self-criticism paper. Keep it. You might need it someday.”
Fu Guanxian casts him a glance.
Zheng Jie smiles and explains, “I'm just being preemptive!”
Fu Guanxian hums, doesn't say anything, but two other things are on his mind. How will he explain things to his parents? He thinks that they probably know by now. Also, he needs to find time to see that ungrateful wretch before he goes abroad!
Fu Guanxian doesn't go home immediately, but goes to the arcade. He beats all the games before it gets dark and returns home.
He knows that he's going to face his parents' interrogation. Sure enough, his mother, Kong Yiyue, is sitting on the sofa in the living room, pretending to be bored and watching TV. When she sees him come back, she asks, “Did you eat?”
Fu Guanxian looks at his mother, who's so kind, and unconsciously shakes his head.
Kong Yiyue stands up and instructs, “Go upstairs and put your backpack away, wash up, and I'll reheat the food. You can eat soon.”
Fu Guanxian is stunned, then obediently goes upstairs. He speculates that his parents are going to brainwash him at the dinner table.
As expected, when he goes downstairs, his father is already sitting at the dinner table with a serious expression.
Fu Guanxian just takes the food his mother hands him, and Fu Jinting says, “A man should be true to his word. I've always disliked repeating myself. So, I always think that if I tell you something once, you'll remember it and learn your lesson.”
Fu Guanxian puts down his chopsticks, sits up straight, and then confesses, “I was impulsive this time. Mom and Dad, it's my fault. But I don't regret beating him up. I've wanted to beat him up for a long time.”
Kong Yiyue really doesn't know what to do with his stubborn personality. “You child! You can hit anyone you don't like? I don't like you either! When have I ever hit you?!”
“Mom, this is different!”
Kong Yiyue replies, “To me, it's the same! You better change this personality of yours!”
“If you can't change it. We don't mind kicking you out of the house!” Fu Jinting adds.
“Dad! Why are you so unreasonable? You haven't even asked about the whole story!” Fu Guanxian retorts.
Fu Jinting wants to use “a person's own medicine against them,” so he says, “You're also good at being unreasonable! Didn't you just say you beat him up because you didn't like him? Now I'm like your mom. I don't like you either. Pack your bags. Get out of the country tomorrow. Don't come back until the end-of-semester exams! The subsidiary over there has recently had some problems. You go over and clean up the mess.”
“Hey! Dad!”
“Eat your food, shut your mouth! I'm still going to school tomorrow to clean up your mess. Do you think your dad has a lot of free time?”
“Heh, Dad, I think you're being intentional.”
Fu Jinting directly replies, “I think you're being intentional too.”
Kong Yiyue watches her husband and son, each trying to outdo the other. She only feels a headache.
In the evening, after dinner, Kong Yiyue goes to Fu Guanxian's room. She sees that he's packing his luggage and stands there to ask, “Do you need Mom's help?”
“Mom, no.” Fu Guanxian folds his clothes neatly and puts them in the suitcase.
Kong Yiyue instructs, “Make sure you bring everything you need, don't forget anything.”
“It's okay if I don't bring everything. I can just buy it there.”
“You! You always love to go against your dad.”
Fu Guanxian stops packing and says, “Mom, I'm not going against Dad! He told me to get out of the country, so I'm packing my bags and getting out of the house, okay?”
“Don't think you're so smart. You dared to say that to the principal today because you already had it in mind to go abroad. Do you think your mom and dad don't know anything?”
“How could I? You and Dad are like detectives, you can figure everything out right away.”
“You're such a wise guy. So, tell your mom now, what did that boy do to make you so angry?”
Fu Guanxian hears her bringing it up again, so he directly stuffs the sweater in his hand into the suitcase, doesn't look up and replies, “He did a lot of things to annoy me!”
“I always thought my son was a broad-minded person. How could he be so easily offended?”
Fu Guanxian mumbles in response, “I'm narrow-minded.”
“If you're narrow-minded, how can you always stand up for others, how come you're always the one paying when you eat out with people, how come last time you…”
“Mom, just ask me directly what you want to know. What's with all this flattery?” Fu Guanxian says directly.
“What did that boy say to make you so angry? Or did he do something?”
Fu Guanxian remembers clearly, but his face turns dark and he doesn't say anything.
Kong Yiyue observes his expression and asks, “I heard from the principal that he's in Year 2? Xiang Yang is also in Year 2, is it because of Xiang Yang?”
Fu Guanxian's expression changes slightly, then he turns and looks at Kong Yiyue. He sees a smile in her eyes, feels a little embarrassed, doesn't care whether he's finished packing his luggage, quickly closes the suitcase, and says, “Mom, stop guessing, I'm going out!”
“Going to your Uncle Xiang's place?” Kong Yiyue guesses.
Fu Guanxian's flight is at 8 am tomorrow, Xiang Yang still has school, and it's too late to say goodbye tomorrow morning.
Fu Guanxian doesn't look at her and quickly throws out a sentence, “No way!”, and then slips away.
Kong Yiyue smiles helplessly, returns to the study and finds her husband.
Fu Jinting is on the phone, and he sees Kong Yiyue when she pushes the door open. She doesn't say anything, but walks over and directly puts her arms around his neck, sitting on his lap.
Fu Jinting puts his arm around her waist, holds the phone in his hand, listens to the person on the other end finish speaking, and then briefly says, “Okay, see you tomorrow afternoon.” After hanging up the phone, he lowers his head and kisses Kong Yiyue's lips.
Kong Yiyue lets him kiss her for a while, and when her breath becomes unsteady, she pushes him away and blushes, “I'm here to talk to you about something serious.”
“Isn't this serious?”
“You're so frivolous!” Kong Yiyue scolds him with a glare.
Fu Jinting has no choice but to pinch her tiny waist. Then he says, “Did you go talk to that kid?”
“Hm, how could I not? You were right. It's really because of Xiang Yang.”
“Only Xiang Yang can make him act so recklessly.”
Kong Yiyue still feels worried, “He's so impetuous and always acts on impulse. What will happen to him in the future?”
“Why are you worrying so much? There are ways to grind down his temper.”
“Hey, that's our son. You don't feel sorry for him, but I do!”
Fu Jinting can't help but kiss her. “Just relax. Men, it's fine to suffer a little setback. It would be strange if everything was smooth sailing.”
Kong Yiyue is held by his waist, she wants to struggle, but can't. She just lets him be. After a while, she starts worrying about something else. She quickly pushes him away and says, “What about Guanxian and Xiang Yang?”
“Let the children handle their own affairs. Don't worry about it.” After saying this, he continues with what was interrupted.
“Hey!” Kong Yiyue is helpless. “Can you not be so impatient?”
“I can't.”
Kong Yiyue: “...”
