Chapter 49: Not Stupid
Sisi made up a reason for him, “I didn't see him. Maybe he studied too late yesterday and can't get up today?”
“That child, even if he's studying hard on New Year's Day, he shouldn't be too busy to come to his father-in-law's house for New Year's greetings.” Mother Qin reprimanded him, but there wasn't a hint of anger on her face. She even seemed a little relieved. She said with a promise, “When he comes home, I'll say a few words to him.”
Sisi said, “Studies are important.”
Mother Qin nodded. “Yes. I heard the exam schedule is in July of the Gregorian calendar. It's already February. Yanci hasn't touched a book in ten years. We hired a tutor for him, but he didn't want to go. We arranged for him to attend the 12th grade, but he didn't agree. He insisted on doing it his own way. What if he doesn't pass if he doesn't study harder?”
He was competitive by nature.
When he was studying, he always wanted to come in first.
If he hadn't gone to the northwest, he would have graduated from college and gotten a job by now.
If he doesn't pass this time, remembering the past, the psychological gap will be too much for him to handle!
She added, “Sisi, you've seen Yanci's temper. He's cold and won't give anyone face. If he does something wrong in the future, be patient.”
Sisi didn't know what Mother Qin meant. She only felt sorry for Qin Yanci because he was studying so hard. She said softly, “Okay.”
After chatting with her in-laws for a while, Sisi went to Lu Yuechun's room and gave her little nephews the red envelopes she had prepared.
Lu Yuechun laughed, “You're so polite. We're family. Why are you being so formal?”
“Just a little something.”
Lu Yuechun suddenly sighed with regret, “I was really looking forward to having someone to go shopping with when you married in. Who knew you guys would move out? From now on, if something happens at home, I won't have anyone to ask for help. Sigh…”
Sisi immediately understood. She wanted Sisi to live in the courtyard after she got married.
She and Qin Yanci were unemployed.
In other people's eyes, they relied on their parents for financial support.
Lu Yuechun was afraid that her in-laws would secretly give them money and wanted to keep them under her nose. If necessary, she could use them as maids.
She wasn't stupid.
Just like at the Li family's, she was always busy.
Her father still thought she had it easy. He often lamented that she was lucky, that all she had to do was clean the house, unlike him, who had to deal with so many stressful things.
It was utterly ridiculous.
She chose her words carefully. “After A-Ci finishes his exams, I'll discuss with him whether we should move back here. Right now, it's impossible. He needs a quiet environment to study.”
With just a few words, she shut Lu Yuechun up.
“Sister-in-law, you go rest. I'm going home now.” Sisi didn't want to give Lu Yuechun another chance to speak. She got up and left. She greeted Qin's parents before leaving.
She had originally planned to go to the family housing complex to have a look around, but she was worried about disturbing Qin Yanci.
“I'll just go back home. If he wants to find me, he'll come.”
Sisi muttered to herself as she went back home.
The door was already open.
Song Hanmei sat in the living room, her eyes fixed on Sisi.
She had been arguing with Old Li, and her body suddenly felt hot and out of control.
The two of them had been tossing and turning until now.
She was worried that the door would be closed for too long and the neighbors would gossip.
She had to get up and open the door. She realized that her daughter and Sisi had left sometime ago.
The package of drugs she had prepared for Qin Yanci was also gone.
She searched the house upside down but couldn't find it.
She thought about the love she suddenly felt for Old Li, and she suspected that she had taken the drug.
The only person in the house who could have done that was Sisi.
“Where did you go?”
