Chapter 02: Stunning
“Ah Ci, this is my sister Yuwei that I mentioned to you,” Ying Sisi said.
Qin Yanci nodded slightly. “Hello.”
Li Yuwei stammered, “Uh, hello.”
Ying Sisi's stepmother, Song Hanmei, heard the noise and stepped out of the main room. The moment she saw Qin Yanci, her eyes widened in astonishment, utterly captivated.
His sharp brows and bright eyes, with defined features.
With looks and stature like his, there was probably no one else like him in all of South and East City, right?
Yuwei had said he had spent ten years in the countryside and had been assimilated by the lowly rural people, thus not wanting to get engaged.
But how could he possibly be lowly with such looks?
Just by standing there, she could tell he was of high quality.
Ying Sisi observed Song Hanmei's greedy and regretful expression quietly.
Inside, she felt quite uneasy, but she masked it well, obediently saying, “Auntie, this is Ah Ci.”
Snapping back to reality, Song Hanmei warmly exclaimed, “Yanci, come in and sit. Sisi, your cooking is great, make a bowl of noodles for Yanci to fill his stomach.”
“Okay.” Ying Sisi turned and went into the kitchen.
From behind, she heard Song Hanmei speaking almost obsequiously, “Yanci, you have been at the Northwest farm for so many years; you're quite experienced now. Our Yuwei works at the street office; let her discuss the current work policies with you.”
“Mom, you talk to him,” Li Yuwei said, avoiding Qin Yanci as she turned to leave. She couldn't understand why Qin Yanci treated Ying Sisi differently than he had treated her in her past life, always following Ying Sisi and curiously asking, “Sister, was it awkward meeting Qin Yanci? What did you two talk about?”
“It was a bit awkward. We didn't chat much; he doesn't like to talk, and I didn't want to be too forward, fearing he'd find me chatty.” Ying Sisi answered, feeling compelled to respond since Li Yuwei had always been friendly towards her.
Li Yuwei didn’t believe it was just a simple chat that would lead Qin Yanci to follow her back. “Can you summarize what happened?”
Ying Sisi hesitated, feeling embarrassed. “I'm not good at organizing my thoughts, so I can't explain it clearly. Should I call Ah Ci over to repeat what happened? But I worry he won't want to cooperate.”
“Let's not call him.” Li Yuwei quickly waved her hand.
Qin Yanci had a dual personality and bipolar disorder; one impatient moment might lead him to lash out at them both. In her previous life, she had nowhere to escape.
Ying Sisi could find a way out; if she ran to the countryside, who would marry Qin Yanci?
She was concerned that asking too many questions might raise Ying Sisi's suspicions, so she made an excuse to leave, ignoring Song Hanmei's calls.
Ying Sisi closed the door and continued making noodles. After secretly eating a large bowl for herself, she began to prepare a portion for Qin Yanci, placing three fried eggs beneath the noodles and adding two slices of beef on top. She brought the bowl to Qin Yanci in the main room.
“Yanci rarely comes by; do you just give him two slices of beef? People might think our family is stingy. Yanci, go ahead and eat; I'll get you some more.” Song Hanmei, wanting to show generosity, personally went back to the kitchen.
Ying Sisi smiled at the noodles.
Qin Yanci understood, using his chopsticks to lift the noodles, revealing a stack of fried eggs, momentarily stunned as a hint of disbelief and surprise flickered in his eyes.
A warm current flowed through his heart, melting away the coldness on his face.
For the first time in his life, someone had treated him to three eggs all at once.
A subtle smile crept onto his lips. “Have you eaten?”
Ying Sisi nodded. “I'm full; you should eat quickly.”
When Song Hanmei returned and saw the two sitting close together, talking, she felt displeased and inwardly cursed, “Vixen.”
Facing Qin Yanci, she greeted him with a smile, “Yanci, here, have some beef.”
“Thank you.” After finishing his noodles, Qin Yanci prepared to leave.
“I'll walk you out,” Ying Sisi offered.
