Chapter 64: Lucky
Sisi put the chicken mushrooms back in her room and went to the bathroom to wash up.
When she was soaking her feet, Li Yuwei pushed the door open. She was full of resentment. “Ying Sisi, don't think that just because I've been through some setbacks, Dad doesn't care about me anymore, and you can turn things around with him. It's impossible! Everything in the house will be mine in the future. You're just a tool to exchange for benefits. You won't get anything in the end.”
“You're crazy!” Sisi scolded.
Does she not know she's a tool? She realized it the day they got engaged. She knew her place. “Who cares about your stuff?”
She never wanted anyone's handouts.
She'd work for what she wants.
“You don't have any proper dowry. You'll be suffering in your husband's house.” Li Yuwei left after saying what she thought would make Sisi feel bad.
She's not happy, and Sisi can't be happy either.
But Sisi had already planned to make two more deals and then ask someone to get her a bicycle ticket.
She would buy a bicycle as a dowry, so she wouldn't be too shabby.
The next morning, the weather was cloudy and gloomy.
Sisi didn't want to go out, but she thought it was inappropriate to break her word.
After some hesitation, she took the chicken mushrooms, went to the vegetable market and bought an old hen, a piece of winter melon, and a piece of pork belly. Then, she went to the family housing complex.
She spent the whole morning making soup.
She steamed a large portion of rice and wrapped thinly sliced winter melon with meat filling, which she steamed.
After it was done, she packed it into lunch boxes and carried it in a thermos to the guesthouse.
She knocked on the door of Room 203.
She said with full energy, “A-Ci, it's me.”
The next second, the door opened from the inside.
The young man was wearing a camel-colored turtleneck and black slacks.
He was tall and upright, with a refined air.
Sisi looked him up and down. “I always feel like you're not the same.”
Qin Yanci raised his eyebrows slightly. “What's different? Do you think the glasses on my face look awkward?”
“No. I can't describe it.” Sisi went to the table, put down the thermos, cleaned the table, and took out the lunch boxes one by one. “Come eat.”
“So much?”
“I'm eating, too.”
Qin Yanci smiled slightly. He took a bite of the winter melon with meat. The winter melon was refreshing, the meat filling was lean and fatty, and it was very appetizing.
The chicken soup was rich and flavorful.
He didn't expect that she was such a good cook.
That guy was rash and easily impulsive. How lucky he was to meet her first.
Sisi finished eating and began to clean up. He just watched her work.
Last night, he went back to the compound.
That guy didn't lie to him. His room was indeed moved to the side room, and the things that belonged to him were abandoned during the years he was gone.
His sister-in-law said lightly, “I thought those things weren't important.”
It was enough to make him furious.
Just like before, she was selfish.
He didn't have to go to the northwest. She forged a medical record that said his older brother had lung disease.
His parents were worried that his brother wouldn't be able to survive, so they asked him to go in his place.
Several times, he received letters from his parents saying that he could come back.
But the approval for his return never came.
He had been enduring it for ten years.
His sister-in-law must have intervened. Then, she was worried that he would come back and marry someone from a good family, which would help him in his work. So she instigated his parents to use his personality as an excuse to match him with Sisi, someone who looked easy to bully.
He saw her washing the lunch boxes and then going to the bed to tidy up his bed.
He couldn't help but say, “You're so virtuous.”
“Oh? Isn't this what I should do? When are you moving back? The heating here doesn't seem as good as at home. Are you cold?” Sisi had been there for a while and felt chilly.
“No.” Qin Yanci looked away and sat back down at his desk to study.
He still had to keep studying.
